“ประเทศไทยกำลังเผชิญความท้าทายครั้งใหญ่ ทั้งปัญหาคอร์รัปชันที่ลามไปทุกวงการ การบังคับใช้กฎหมายที่ล้มเหลว การทะลักของอาชญากรรมข้ามชาติ และการบริหารประเทศที่ขาดความโปร่งใสจนประชาชนหมดศรัทธา ทุกวันนี้ เราเห็นปัญหาทุกมิติ ทั้งเศรษฐกิจที่ชะลอตัว หนี้ครัวเรือนพุ่งสูง ธุรกิจสีเทาเฟื่องฟู ความเหลื่อมล้ำที่รุนแรงขึ้น และความแตกแยกในสังคมที่สะสมมายาวนาน

การเป็น ‘รัฐล้มเหลว’ ไม่ใช่เรื่องไกลตัวอีกต่อไป เพราะการบริหารประเทศในปัจจุบันไม่อาจแก้ไขปัญหารากฐานได้ และกลับสร้างความเสียหายระยะยาวให้มากขึ้น เราจะทำอย่างไรเพื่อไม่ให้ประเทศไทยก้าวไปสู่จุดที่ยากจะฟื้นฟู? ถึงเวลาที่เราต้องตั้งคำถามและหาคำตอบร่วมกัน ก่อนที่ความล้มเหลวจะกลายเป็นความจริงอย่างไม่มีทางเลี่ยง”

TU-RAC invites you to read the article “Is Thailand Approaching Failed State Status?” by Assoc. Prof. Witaya Danthamrongkul from the Thammasat University Research and Consultancy Institute (TU-RAC), published every Thursday in the Now and Beyond by TU-RAC column of the Bangkok Business newspaper.
“Thailand is facing significant challenges: corruption spreading across all sectors, failed law enforcement, the surge of transnational crime, and a lack of transparency in governance that has eroded public trust. Today, we see problems in all dimensions—an economic slowdown, soaring household debt, the proliferation of gray-market businesses, worsening inequality, and deep-seated social divisions.
The notion of becoming a ‘failed state’ is no longer a distant concern. The current government’s inability to address fundamental issues has only deepened the long-term damage. What can be done to prevent Thailand from reaching an irreversible point? It’s time to ask the hard questions and seek collective solutions before failure becomes an unavoidable reality.”
