“ช้างในห้อง” หมายถึง ปัญหาหรือเรื่องใหญ่ที่ทุกคนเห็นชัดเจนแต่เลือกที่จะเพิกเฉยหรือไม่พูดถึง แม้ว่าจะรู้สึกอึดอัดกับมันก็ตาม
ในระดับองค์กร ปรากฏการณ์นี้มักเกิดจากวัฒนธรรมที่ไม่เปิดเผยปัญหา หรือการขาดช่องทางสื่อสารที่ปลอดภัย หากผู้นำไม่กล้าหาญพอที่จะเปิดเผยปัญหาหรือไม่แสดงความพร้อมในการเปลี่ยนแปลง ปัญหาก็จะยังคงอยู่และอาจลุกลาม
ในสังคมไทย “ช้างในห้อง” นับวันยิ่งขยายใหญ่และยุ่งยากยิ่งกว่าในองค์กร มีปัญหาหลายด้านที่ยังไม่ถูกพูดถึงหรือจัดการ
ด้วยวัฒนธรรมแบบ “พูดไปสองไพเบี้ย นิ่งเสียตำลึงทอง”

The “elephant in the room” refers to a major issue that everyone can clearly see but chooses to ignore or remain silent about, despite the discomfort it causes.
At the organizational level, this phenomenon often arises from a culture of concealing problems or a lack of safe communication channels. If leaders are not courageous enough to address the issues or fail to show readiness for change, the problems will remain and may even escalate.
In Thai society, the “elephant in the room” is growing ever larger and more complicated than in organizations, with many issues left unspoken or unresolved—driven by the cultural notion that “silence is golden.”
